Casa Ojalá
Una experiencia de encuentro de distintos ritmos, historias y sabores que confluyen en la importancia de mirarse, ver el pasado y trazar líneas hacia adelante. Liz Misterio @lizmisterio nos regaló un diálogo cálido, cercano, con profundo respeto por las historias cruzadas por grandes fuerzas geopolíticas a través de una estética lírica y subjetiva. Lázaro J. González @lachi.glez, director de Parole (2024), curador del Festival Archipiélago Fílmico y residente de Casa Ojalá, compartió relatos de su historia familiar, atravesada por la migración, las expectativas de apoyo y la persistencia por mantener un contacto cercano en la distancia. La presencia de Sofía Gallisá Muriente @hatoreina pudo sentirse con la proyección de “Celaje”. Sofía nos conmovió profundamente con las pérdidas familiares, territoriales, identitarias, e incluso de archivo, que trae la ineficiente gestión de desastres, en un mundo que hoy los vive con mayor frecuencia. Sin duda, la energía de Laura Batista @pyctacolors, directora de @archipielagofilmico, se sintió desde la cocina hasta el baile. Su sazón nos deleitó con Quimbombó, Viandas y la conexión de todas estas voluntades para encontrarnos a mirar la Ausencia y las islas que se repiten. También tuvimos “Cuidado con el diablo”, el mezcal de @arellaneshugo que nos hizo entrar en calor ante la lluvia que nos cobijaba con los “pedos de elefante”, nombre en persa de las palomitas de maíz que no podían faltar en una noche de películas.
Apantle: Cuerpos de Agua CDMX

Muchas gracias a todas las personas que hicieron de Apantle Cuerpos de Agua CDMX un espacio de encuentro, diálogo, inspiración y preguntas sobre cómo seguir adelante en la defensa del agua. Desde las experiencias sonoras presentadas por Panósmico e Isla Urbana, a los casos con llamado a la acción urgente de Cooperativa Acción Comunitaria y del Frente Anahuác. El performance de Bea Millón, en la fuente histórica de Vizcaínas, que nos abrió sus puertas, nos conectó y conmovió. Disfrutamos también de delicioso café autónomo de El Ombligo y unos taquitos con pulque de Laguna Seca. Agradecemos a Radio Nopal por su transmisión y documentación del evento, si quieres revivirlo, escúchalo en la liga en la bio. También a Ariadna Ramonetti de Isalario por su acompañamiento en la convocatoria. La serie está organizada por Amado Cabrales @amado_cabrales y Casa Ojalá. Roa Estudio de Cerámica
Casa Ojalá acompañó a Silvana Hurtado Dianderas durante su residencia en la Ciudad de México, donde dio inicio al proyecto Embodied Resonances. Este trabajo se mostró por primera vez durante el Estudio Abierto del 15 al 17 de mayo de 2025 en Roa @roaceramicstudio. Estas fotos muestran un fragmento de lo que fue ese día y del proceso colaborativo que lo hizo posible. El proyecto exploró la autorregulación a través del sonido corporal, materializado en una instalación interactiva de cerámica. Las piezas fueron desarrolladas junto a Nicola Matthews @nicochtl_, Andrés Aburto De La Fuente @andresabrosito y Juan Pablo Martín Schettino, quienes colaboraron desde su experiencia como personas dentro del espectro autista. Mil gracias a todas las personas que hicieron posible la realización de este proyecto en CDMX. Silvana contó con la asesoría artística de Jo Ying Peng @joyingpeng y el acompañamiento del equipo de Casa Ojalá: Katayoun Vaziri, Abou Farman y LauFrey. Recibió orientación terapéutica de Kimia Tehrami @kimia83 y Jurrian Hansink @jurrianwilliam. La producción cerámica fue apoyada por Itze Roa Mendoza @Itzerooar (Roa Ceramic Studio, CDMX), Daniela Súchil Chávez @achismiachis y Osvaldo Padrón @inyolotl_. El diseño gráfico fue realizado por Valeria Tenaud @Valeriatenaud y el diseño en metal por Ricardo Ángeles Reyes @ricardoangelesr. También agradecemos la Dra. Echando raíces torcidas: Diásporas caribeñas cuir en México

Casa Ojalá
El 25 de julio, nos reunimos en Casa Ojalá para un encuentro de la diáspora cuir afrocaribeña en México. El lipsync en honor a Bola de Nieve, a manos de Tito Mitjans con girasol en mano, se fundió con la poesía de Odette Alonso y la reflexión de cómo aún en español, las palabras de Cuba no encontraban equivalente en México o incluso eran lo contrario. Entonces ¿La música, el baile, la palabra escrita para quién tendría significado? Adonis S. Cervera nos compartió una reflexión sobre la Regla de Ocha, los vínculos históricos con México y las formas en que lxs mexicanxs se han apropiado de la misma. Isabel de León nos recordó algunas figuras afro caribeñas radicadas en México quienes tuvieron un impasse en la historia intelectual mexicana. A veces negando y a veces reivindicando el lazo regional. La charla nos dio luz sobre aquello que día a día es evidente pero que no siempre sabemos ver, nombrar y reconocer. Y ante tanta energía movida, el performance de Lia nos ayudó a canalizarla hacia las personas y vidas que diario buscan echar raíces con memoria. Nos deleitamos con mixiotes, tamales de setas y frijolitos charros de Xaneri damián y la Señora Josefa. Hubo al menos un plato que se sirvió con yogur para evocar la fusión persa. El mezcal de Hugo Arellanes nos condujo al baile y al goce con las fotos de archivo histórico afrocaribeño.

Durante los ataques a Irán en junio de 2025, Casa Ojalá de la mano con Mujeres de la Sexta convocaron a esta conversación en línea con Alex Shams (periodista y antropólogo) y Ghazal Ghazi (poeta y bibliotecaria). El diálogo y la reflexión se articularon a partir de 3 declaraciones escritas por distintos colectivos sobre el ataque bélico de Israel contra Irán. Estas fueron: Declaración de Obreros/as, Declaración del movimiento de mujeres baluchis y Declaración de cuatro presas políticas de Evin. Esta conversación aborda preguntas ¿Cómo empezó el ataque, qué pasará con los movimientos por la libertad en Irán? ¿Cuáles son los posibles futuros de la región y las implicaciones para otras luchas globales? Sonidos Callejeros: El Cairo y Ciudad de México

este evento fue un viaje sonoro por las calles de El Cairo y Ciudad de México! Nuestra residente Dalia Ibraheem y la cineasta Joyce García @morenastyy nos llevaron a una exploración de la historia y el presente de las escenas musicales de mahragaanat y sonidero en estas dos capitales grandes del Sur Global. Por medio de los ritmos callejeros de estos géneros y su presencia en espacios alternativos, entendimos más de cómo pueden funcionar el ritmo, el sonido, y el baile como expresión disidente para comunidades de zonas urbanas marginadas que se enfrentan con logicas estatales del encarcelamiento y represión policial. Con la ayuda de @saboratorio_ , nuestros paladares tuvieron la experiencia de los sabores intoxicantes del Chaat-i-locos, una combinación del chaat de India y los dorilocos mexicanos. ¡Gracias a todes los que vinieron y ayudaron a hacer posible este evento!
En defensa del Maíz

Desde Milpa Alta, aquí en la Ciudad de México, hasta la milpa urbana en Oaxaca, nos reunimos este 23 de Febrero en Casa Ojalá para hablar de maíz, de milpa, de planes y redes de apoyo contra la imposición capitalista de los monocultivos, moderaron Isabel Deheza y Gustavo A. Cruz Cerna. @mujer_esdelatierra puso en el centro la crítica a los medios que el sistema capitalista usa para que las personas que llegamos a las ciudades lo hagamos bajo la creencia del "Sueño americano" que no solo se mira en estados unidos, sino en las capitales, y cómo estas prácticas consumistas y de uso-basura son las que nos afectan cotidianamente a nuestros territorios, como en la naturaleza y en los pensamientos y forma de vincularse de nostras las personas con el territorio . Con permiso de la Asamblea, Edith Morales @edithmorales_art leyó la poderosa declaración del Espacio Estatal de Defensa de Maíz, criticando las políticas del estado. Angélica y Fernando Palma @calpulli.tecalco hablaron del poder del maíz en su proyecto en Milpa Alta y del poder del Náhuatl como cosmología lingüística para guiarnos hacia futuros posibles. Tuvimos la suerte de contar con Conuco @conuco_mx y sus libros con nosotrxs. También Mujeres de la tierra nos alimentó con deliciosas gorditas, tamales y tlacoyos. Los compañerxs de Legaia @legadogaia construyeron un mapa de ideas y colectividades en torno al maíz. Esperamos que este encuentro sea el inicio de muchos más por la defensa de la biodiversidad de México.

El viernes nos encontramos para compartir herramientas feministas que nos permitan incidir en las problemáticas socioambientales contemporáneas. Gracias a todos los que lo hicieron posible viniendo, contribuyendo, compartiendo espacio y sueños. Con @luciaixchiugt , Iniciamos el taller con un k’jab que nos permitió agradecer al viento, al fuego, a la tierra, al agua por la posibilidad de coincidir. Luego @columba.gd propició una reflexión sobre la recuperación de lo que ha sido enterrado y no debería estar ahí. Con cuidado, recuperamos saberes, memorias y seres. De la mano de @marcelam.magana nos tomamos un tiempo para sentipensar con el micelio. Apelamos a la construcción de redes y al entrecambio como estrategia para prosperar en un planeta dañado. Finalmente, @cc.gg.ii apeló a la conmoción que trastoca para invitarnos a co-crear herramientas situadas capaces de generar prácticas alternativas que fracturen los imaginarios cautivos. Colectivamente construimos un espacio de conversación y reflexión profunda y gozosa. On Saturday we met to close the cycle "The invasion of Iraq in 5 parts" enjoying the film My Lost Country by Ishtar Yasin who accompanied us virtually in the conversation about the invasion and occupation of Iraq and its parallels in Latin America . We also built a collective decolonial wall map that brings together experiences from the cycle, including presentation of the project “A people's Tribunal: 28 exhibits” by Nataša Prljević from Hekler , articles by journalist and independent researcher Mend Mariwany, and and notes from all those who participated as a breathing archive of our night together and commitment to life-giving resistance. We greatly thank mend mariwany for the delicious Iraqi dinner prepared for all the people who joined us at this event, to @quilombo.cooperativa for very good beers and to everyone who joined these reflections here at Casa ojala. Tonight was a collaboration between Hekler, Cine Bandung, Mend Mariwany and Casa Ojalá The cycle “The invasion of Iraq in 5 parts” was organized by Katy Montaya of Cine Bandung in collaboration with Biquiniwax Collective and Casa ojala.
Fights for Life: Ideas from Iran to Palestine

On Thursday, October 3, we gathered at CCH high school with students to honor the second anniversary of the Iranian Women's Life Freedom Movement and one year since the last genocide in Palestine. Shadi Rohana and Shokufeh historically and geopolitically contextualized current events in Iran and Palestine for students. They connected the dots between issues such as privatization, militarization, the Nakba, the US-led coups, theocracy and the constant resistance of the people on the ground, among all the political contradictions and oppressions from all sides. Then, Ana Rosa from BDS Mexico Movement, made this global unrest palpable, describing the connection of militarization in Mexico with the Israelis. She presented the global BDS movement as a feasible and effective act of civil resistance in Mexico City. Thank you Neftalí and Adriana for trusting us with your students. It was an honor to share the history, joy and sorrows of the Middle East to the classroom of CCH students. Mahsa Amini, Khodanur, Siahkal fighters, Nur al-Din Hayyay, Manal Meqdad, Hiba abu Nada and Husam Ma'ruf will be a memory that we will keep from this conversation to maintain the flames of belief that one day we will all celebrate a free Palestine and a Middle East in which everyone lives with dignity and freedom of choice.✌️🍉

Tuvimos la oportunidad de conversar acerca de los filmes de la muestra, del diseño gráfico cubano, de las diásporas fílmicas actuales, así como de los vacíos e impedimentos que existen para la exhibición de cine joven cubano en la isla y el mundo y la importancia en ello de las redes de colaboración.

We were joined by the filmmakers of the documentary, Témoris Grecko and Coizta Grecko, as well as the Israeli activist and conscientious objector Shahaf Weisbein to talk about militarization and its consequences in our country and in Palestine, Lebanon and Israel. Mexico City premiere of Terrestrial Verses, a film by Iranian director Alireza Khatami and Ali Asgari, on Saturday, August 17 at 4:30 pm at Cine Tonalá. The film will be shown in Persian with English subtitles, and will be followed by a discussion, in English, between director Alireza Khatami and Alex Shams of Ajam Media Collective. Terrestrial Verses follows everyday Iranians from all walks of life as they navigate the cultural, religious, and institutional constraints imposed on them by various social authorities, from school teachers to bureaucrats. These stirring vignettes, humorous and affecting, capture the spirit and determination of people amidst adversity, offering a nuanced portrait of a complex society. The film premiered recently in the Un Certain Regard section at Cannes. Alireza Khatami is an Iran-born, Canada-based filmmaker whose works explore precarious lives, identity politics, and feature a dark sense of humor. His films gained recognition, showcased at prestigious festivals such as Cannes, Venice, and Berlinale. His debut feature, Oblivion Verses, premiered at the 74th Venice Film Festival, winning three awards, including the Orizzonti Award for Best Screenplay and FIPRESCI. Alex Shams is a writer with a PhD in Anthropology from the University of Chicago. He is founder of Ajam Media Collective (ajammc.com), an online magazine focused on culture, politics, and society in West Asia. The screening is organized as part of a collaboration between La Escuela Superior de Cine (Escine), Cine Tonalá and Casa Ojalá.

Bondades de Palestina es una acción organizada por @semillasde.resistencia y @ojala.ojala.mx que nació de la necesidad de generar comunidad, conectar con la cultura de Palestina y recaudar fondos en solidaridad con el pueblo palestino. Juntos el viernes pasado compartimos historias, poemas, fotos, música, dabke, deliciosa comida tradicional de Palestina, risas, lágrimas y mucho más. Fue un gran esfuerzo de colaboración. Queremos dar un agradecimiento al chef Josimar @josimar_rod por toda la investigación y esfuerzo. Gracias a todos los artistas @miauediciones @_riosdetinta @artetransmutante_ @bchoclit @ca_art_collective_ @cdmxayudamutua @ltmoscarella @yuruany.rivero @sssssszamora @el_autentico_benjamin_valdes por las donaciones de arte, fanzines, stickers y carteles. On January 13, 2024 we met at the U-Topicas Bookstore, Coyoacán, in a unique event to share and celebrate the work of black poets and artists in Mexico. The event was convened by black feminist poet and thinker Tonya Foster, a resident of Casa ojala in January, as part of a proposal called “Cartography of the African Americas.” Fortunately, there was a full house at the event. The poets Aleida Cisneros and Juliana Acevedos, and the graphic artist and muralist Baltazar Melo, presented their work together with Tonya (author of “A Swarm of Bees in High Court”). A debate moderated by Itza Varela, author of “Tiempo De Diablos: Uses of Culture and the Past in the Process of Ethnic Construction of Black Afro-Mexican Peoples,” followed, who described the work of Afro-descendant artists and the black movement of the coast. girl as a “counter-miscegenation process.” The panel and the public covered topics such as the homogenizing project of the nation-state, racism in Mexico, art as social theory through the imagination, the need for spaces for work and discussion, the work of black women in domestic spaces by creating and transmitting verse and knowledge. In general it was said how cool blackness is! At the end of the event at U-topias, we moved to Casa ojala for more improvised presentations and a large bowl of gumbo prepared by Blaxicocina. This was just a first step: there must be more!

Fights for Life: Ideas from Iran to Palestine

On Thursday, October 3, we gathered at CCH high school with students to honor the second anniversary of the Iranian Women's Life Freedom Movement and one year since the last genocide in Palestine. Shadi Rohana and Shokufeh historically and geopolitically contextualized current events in Iran and Palestine for students. They connected the dots between issues such as privatization, militarization, the Nakba, the US-led coups, theocracy and the constant resistance of the people on the ground, among all the political contradictions and oppressions from all sides. Then, Ana Rosa from BDS Mexico Movement, made this global unrest palpable, describing the connection of militarization in Mexico with the Israelis. She presented the global BDS movement as a feasible and effective act of civil resistance in Mexico City. Thank you Neftalí and Adriana for trusting us with your students. It was an honor to share the history, joy and sorrows of the Middle East to the classroom of CCH students. Mahsa Amini, Khodanur, Siahkal fighters, Nur al-Din Hayyay, Manal Meqdad, Hiba abu Nada and Husam Ma'ruf will be a memory that we will keep from this conversation to maintain the flames of belief that one day we will all celebrate a free Palestine and a Middle East in which everyone lives with dignity and freedom of choice.✌️🍉

Two photos from the screening+conversation of MirarMorir that took place last Sunday, 09/29 at Casa oja, within the framework of the tenth anniversary of the disappearance of the 43 normalistas from Ayotzinapa. We were joined by the filmmakers of the documentary, Témoris Grecko and Coizta Grecko, as well as the Israeli activist and conscientious objector Shahaf Weisbein to talk about militarization and its consequences in our country and in Palestine, Lebanon and Israel. This event was organized by "Agrupación Mexicana de Judíes Interdependientes" and "Judíes por una Palestina Libre"

Tuvimos la oportunidad de conversar acerca de los filmes de la muestra, del diseño gráfico cubano, de las diásporas fílmicas actuales, así como de los vacíos e impedimentos que existen para la exhibición de cine joven cubano en la isla y el mundo y la importancia en ello de las redes de colaboración.

Mexico City premiere of Terrestrial Verses, a film by Iranian director Alireza Khatami and Ali Asgari, on Saturday, August 17 at 4:30 pm at Cine Tonalá. The film will be shown in Persian with English subtitles, and will be followed by a discussion, in English, between director Alireza Khatami and Alex Shams of Ajam Media Collective. Terrestrial Verses follows everyday Iranians from all walks of life as they navigate the cultural, religious, and institutional constraints imposed on them by various social authorities, from school teachers to bureaucrats. These stirring vignettes, humorous and affecting, capture the spirit and determination of people amidst adversity, offering a nuanced portrait of a complex society. The film premiered recently in the Un Certain Regard section at Cannes. Alireza Khatami is an Iran-born, Canada-based filmmaker whose works explore precarious lives, identity politics, and feature a dark sense of humor. His films gained recognition, showcased at prestigious festivals such as Cannes, Venice, and Berlinale. His debut feature, Oblivion Verses, premiered at the 74th Venice Film Festival, winning three awards, including the Orizzonti Award for Best Screenplay and FIPRESCI. Alex Shams is a writer with a PhD in Anthropology from the University of Chicago. He is founder of Ajam Media Collective (ajammc.com), an online magazine focused on culture, politics, and society in West Asia. The screening is organized as part of a collaboration between La Escuela Superior de Cine (Escine), Cine Tonalá and Casa Ojalá.

Juntos el viernes pasado compartimos historias, poemas, fotos, música, dabke, deliciosa comida tradicional de Palestina, risas, lágrimas y mucho más. Fue un gran esfuerzo de colaboración. Queremos dar un agradecimiento al chef Josimar @josimar_rod por toda la investigación y esfuerzo. On January 13, 2024 we met at the U-Topicas Bookstore, Coyoacán, in a unique event to share and celebrate the work of black poets and artists in Mexico. The event was convened by black feminist poet and thinker Tonya Foster, a resident of Casa ojala in January, as part of a proposal called “Cartography of the African Americas.” Fortunately, there was a full house at the event. The poets Aleida Cisneros and Juliana Acevedos, and the graphic artist and muralist Baltazar Melo, presented their work together with Tonya (author of “A Swarm of Bees in High Court”). A debate moderated by Itza Varela, author of “Tiempo De Diablos: Uses of Culture and the Past in the Process of Ethnic Construction of Black Afro-Mexican Peoples,” followed, who described the work of Afro-descendant artists and the black movement of the coast. girl as a “counter-miscegenation process.” The panel and the public covered topics such as the homogenizing project of the nation-state, racism in Mexico, art as social theory through the imagination, the need for spaces for work and discussion, the work of black women in domestic spaces by creating and transmitting verse and knowledge. In general it was said how cool blackness is! At the end of the event at U-topias, we moved to Casa ojala for more improvised presentations and a large bowl of gumbo prepared by Blaxicocina. On December 3, we gathered in centro de coyoacan park for "Sewing as Therapy" - a public event initiated by Mady Cano resident artist at Casa Ojala. As part of this social therapy, everyone was welcome to join us around a table in the park to sew: we brought together beads and textiles, found and discarded objects, social incongruities and broken relationships and made new connections and formed new fabrics.

On December 16, we celebrated Yalda in Mexico! Yalda marks the winter solstice - the longest night of the year. Iranians celebrate it as a sign that the sun will eventually emerge no matter how long the dark nights of winter may be. After Yalda, every day becomes longer and every night becomes shorter. For us, Yalda also has a symbolic meaning: that resistance will always triumph in the face of repression, no matter how long that repression lasts or how overwhelming it feels. At Casa Ojala, we celebrated by staying up late, reading poetry, playing music, dancing, and eating red foods like pomegranate and watermelon, in accordance with Iranian tradition. This event was made possible through the collective effort of many. On nov 1, having pain of Genocide of Palestine in our hearts, we gathered in center of Coyoacan to create our collective altar of resistance, in memory of those who lost their lives fighting for a more just world. If, in the midst of this widespread global fascism, we still resist and we still havent lost hope, it's because of us standing on the shoulders of many heros before us. on the Day of Death of 2023, lives of Faris Odeh, Biljana Kovacevic Vuco, Zina Amini, Berta Cáceres, Benito García Prieto, Mahmoud Darwish, Nikolai Gumiliov, Bijan Jazani, Marielle Franco, Armita Geravand, Aurelia Arzu, Said Soltanpour, Balkan freedom fighters, Ashraf Dehghan, Ileana Lacayo, people of Palestine, Tigray, Sudan, COng among others were honored through altar offerings, singing and poetry reading. May this Altar of Resistance be a reminder that we have a long way to go but in the end, humanity will win.
